This study aims to examine the integration of a reused building with the city. To this aim, this
study evaluates adaptive reuse ideas in a chosen historical building, Şehbenderler Mansion
Library, in İbrahimpaşa Neighborhood, Bursa. This study is based on case study analysis and
evaluation methodology by scrutinizing reused architectural spaces with respect to their
relationship to the built environment. Drawing upon relevant literature, evaluation parameters
are developed in a local framework to explore how adaptive reuse can contribute to the city.
This study covers two stages: (1) constructing the theoretical background based on the
relationships between adaptive reuse and urban design; and (2) evaluating the chosen building
to understand their adaptive reuse principles with respect to their contributions to the city. This
study demonstrated that adaptive reuse of the chosen building contributed to the city, regarding
the atmosphere of urban spaces, accessibility, and sustainability of cultural, historical, and
architectural aspects.
