    Invitation for Abstract Submissions

    Alanya University is pleased to announce the Call for Abstracts for the 10th International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism (ICCAUA2027), to be held on 5–7 May 2027 in Istanbul, Türkiye, in a hybrid format.

    ICCAUA2027 is organized by Alanya University, Türkiye, in close partnership with Istanbul Aydın University, Türkiye; the German University in Cairo (GUC), Egypt; and CIAUD.UBI—Centre for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), Portugal.

    The conference will provide an international and interdisciplinary platform for academicians, researchers, architects, urban planners, landscape architects, civil engineers, designers, professionals, practitioners, policymakers, and postgraduate students to present and discuss current research, innovative approaches, emerging technologies, and contemporary challenges affecting architecture, cities, urbanism, and the wider built environment.

    ICCAUA2027 particularly encourages contributions that establish meaningful connections between theory, research, policy, design, technology, and professional practice.

     

    Conference Themes

    Abstract submissions are invited within, but are not limited to, the following principal themes:

    1. Architecture and Technology
      Digital architecture, computational design, artificial intelligence, Building Information Modelling (BIM), smart buildings, innovative materials, construction technologies, building performance, and emerging design methodologies.
    2. Sustainability and Urban Design
      Sustainable architecture, sustainable urban development, climate-responsive design, resilient cities, smart cities, green infrastructure, urban regeneration, environmental design, and sustainable mobility.
    3. Heritage and Cultural Landscapes
      Architectural heritage, cultural landscapes, heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, historic urban environments, cultural identity, heritage management, and digital heritage documentation.
    4. Habitat Studies and Infra Habitation
      Housing, human settlements, informal urbanism, residential environments, community development, public space, social sustainability, infrastructure, and changing patterns of habitation.
    5. Urban Economics: Studies, Policies and Challenges
      Urban development economics, housing markets, land economics, urban investment, real-estate development, economic resilience, urban policy, regeneration economics, and the economic dimensions of sustainable cities.
    6. Salutogenic Architecture
      Healthy buildings, therapeutic environments, healthcare architecture, environmental psychology, biophilic design, well-being, inclusive environments, healthy cities, and evidence-based design.
    7. Civil Engineering
      Structural engineering, construction engineering and management, sustainable construction, building materials, infrastructure systems, earthquake engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation infrastructure, and innovative engineering technologies.
    8. Business, Economics and Tourism Management
      Business management, economics, tourism planning, destination management, hospitality, sustainable tourism, urban tourism, entrepreneurship, innovation management, and the relationship between tourism and the built environment.

    Interdisciplinary studies connecting two or more conference themes are particularly welcomed.

     

    Abstract Submission Guidelines

    Authors are invited to submit an original abstract of no more than 150 words.

    The abstract should clearly and concisely present:

    • the background and context of the study;
    • the purpose or research objective;
    • the methodology or research approach;
    • the principal findings or expected contribution; and
    • the main conclusion and significance of the research.

    • Submission type: Abstract only at the initial stage
    • Maximum abstract length: 150 words
    • Language: English
    • File format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
    • Template: Official ICCAUA Abstract Template is mandatory
    • Submission email: iccaua@alanyauniversity.edu.tr
    • Abstract submission deadline: 5 December 2026

    Authors should not submit the full paper at the initial submission stage.

    Early-Bird Registration Deadline: 5 February 2027
    Full-Paper Submission Deadline: 5 April 2027
    Conference Dates: 5–7 May 2027

    Authors of accepted abstracts may proceed with conference registration and subsequent full-paper preparation.

     

    Full-Paper Submission

    Following abstract acceptance and registration, authors wishing to publish a full conference paper will be invited to prepare their manuscripts according to the official ICCAUA2027 guidelines.

    Full papers should:

    • contain approximately 5,000–10,000 words, including references;
    • be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx);
    • follow the official ICCAUA manuscript template;
    • use APA citation and referencing style;
    • normally contain Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References; and
    • not exceed a file size of 25 MB.

    Full papers will be submitted through the designated Google Classroom submission system. Full papers will not be accepted by email.

     

    Presentation Format

    ICCAUA2027 will be organized as a hybrid international conference.

    Participants may choose to present:

    In Person
    at Istanbul Aydın University, Florya Campus, Istanbul, Türkiye

    or

    Online
    through the conference's designated virtual platform.

    This hybrid structure is intended to facilitate broad international participation and academic exchange among researchers who may not be able to travel to Istanbul.

     

    Publication Opportunities

    Accepted and presented full papers may be considered for publication in the Proceedings of the International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism (ICCAUA), subject to successful completion of the conference's editorial and peer-review requirements.

    Conference papers published in the proceedings are assigned individual Crossref DOIs, and the proceedings are published by Alanya University under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) Licence.

    Selected high-quality contributions may also be recommended to collaborating journals indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science or considered for invited book chapters, depending on their subject area and academic quality.

    Recommendation does not constitute a guarantee of journal or book-chapter publication. Any extended manuscript will be subject to the independent editorial assessment, peer-review requirements, publication policies, and final decision of the respective journal or publisher.
