Rural heritage, shaped by the coexistence of nature and human communities, is undergoing a
profound transformation. Across Turkey, rural architecture and the cultural landscapes they
form are increasingly threatened by depopulation. In this context, the Misvak Village in the
Ayvacık district of Çanakkale provides a significant case for understanding rural heritage
values. The settlement represents a distinctive example of traditional architecture characterized
by the use of local stone materials and vernacular construction techniques. Despite its unique
spatial organization, Misvak Village has not previously been examined within the framework
of living heritage. During fieldwork in 2025, the village was systematically analysed for
building materials, construction techniques, and settlement layout. Detailed survey drawings
were produced for 28 houses. The study aims to explore the interrelationship between the
village’s tangible and intangible values. By documenting these overlooked dimensions, this
research offers a foundation for future conservation strategies for Misvak Village and
comparable settlements.
